Czech-Bulgarian Talks Proceed in a Friendly Atmosphere

The Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Bulgaria are meeting in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual support. Chairman of Bulgaria’s National Assembly Georg Pirinski and Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek discussed the issue of promoting unified proceedings in the fight against organized crime and corruption. The Czech Prime Minister described support for Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen system as another major field of mutual cooperation. For its part, the Czech Republic is to enter the Schengen system on December 21, 2007. Georg Pirinski praised the overall level of Czech investments in Bulgaria. Both Prime Ministers then shortly discussed the development of tourism. “Relations between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria have always been good, while mutual friendship and cooperation are now being further promoted,“ said Premier Topolánek.

The Czech Prime Minister also attended deliberations of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He described the task of removing administrative barriers and burden on enterprise as the key priority of the Czech Government vis-a-vis the host country. He accentuated both countries´ interest in the power sector, pointing out the great share of ČEZ in the Bulgarian market.

In this respect, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin emphasized the 52 % increase in mutual trade exchange between the two countries, and confirmed that he regarded the power sector and transport infrastructure as the key branches. At the same time, he appreciated interest displayed by Czech investors who do not hesitate to invest in the sphere of public services, and declared that Bulgaria would create for Czech investors most suitable conditions for their business activities. He also thanked the Czech Republic, the first country to have removed barriers in its labour market for Bulgarian citizens.
