Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek’s statement on the current political situation

„Recent utterances of the coalition partners in the media make it clear that the forthcoming election of Czech President produces tension in the Government. With respect to the differing views of the coalition partners and the neutral position of the Civic Democratic Party concerning the return of Jiří Čunek to the Government, I have created room for an agreement between the two smaller coalition parties, provided it is concluded in the nearest future.
Which of course does not mean that I shirk off my responsibility as Prime Minister: should such agreement not be achieved, I will have to decide myself.
I however resolutely reject the claim that the presidential election is a subject of some sort of personal ‘deals’.“

Mirek Topolánek
