To mark the occasion of holiday of Czech statehood on 28 September, the Czech Government Office opened a long-term exhibit for the public at Hránský Palace called Symbols of the Republic: Pillars of Czech Statehood. A smaller version of the exhibit has now also been newly crated at the Straka Academy.

The exhibit is intended to familiarise the public with the historic roots of the official Czech state symbols, including the large and small emblem, the state colours, the flag, the presidential flag, the state seal and the national anthem. The official state symbols of the Czech Republic are defined in Article 14 of the Constitution from 1992. The exhibit fulfils mainly identification and representative functions, but also aims to increase awareness about the more than 1,000-year history of the state. It commemorates historic continuity and how the present corresponds to the efforts of dozens of generations of ancestors.

The exhibit in the Straka Academy is intended mainly for official visitors and guests of the prime minister. The exhibit at Hrzánský Palace is intended mainly for students of elementary and secondary schools with instruction of humanities subjects. The tour and the accompanying narration is a great way to enhance instruction of civics, history and social studies.

The exhibit at Hrzánský Palace is accessible to the public every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The tour is commented and lasts approximately 40 minutes. Admission is free.

Reservations in advance are unconditionally necessary. Reservations can be made by calling 224 002 189.
