The Paths of the Czech Constitutionality

This year, at the end of February, 90 years have elapsed since the adoption of the first Czechoslovak constitution.

Thus it was foundation of the new state finished from the symbolical and legal point of view. It posed numerous challenges to then political players which they had to cope with. The constitutional development in the Czech Republic continues and issues which arose in the discussion on the constitution, their prospects and possibilities, are still topical. Members of the government significantly participated in the preparation of the constitutional rules and the Office of the Government will commemorate this event in the framework of the project The Paths of the Czech Constitutionality under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Fischer.

Expert seminar
The Constitution of the Czech Republic – genesis, development and prospects

In cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the Charles University in Prague.

The objective of the seminar is to deal with both current form and the presumptive development of the Czech Constitution.

Scientific conference
The Constitution 1920 – Culmination of Constituting the Czechoslovak State

In cooperation with the faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague.

The aim of the event is to summarize existing scientific knowledge on the historical context of the adoption of the Czechoslovak constitution and to bring new, unpublished results of the scientific research.

Exhibition
The Paths of Czech Constitutionality

In cooperation with the National Archives of the Czech Republic.

The exhibition presents a selection of essential constitutional documents constituting internal relations in the Czech Lands from the middle ages to the present and it is a part of a long-term exhibition Symbols of the Republic, Pillars of Constitutionality. The main exhibits are the constitution of 1920, the anniversary of which we commemorate this year and the Maiestas Carolina, the October Diploma and Washington declaration.

The book The paths of the Czech Constitutionality will be published on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the adoption of the first Czechoslovak constitution.
