Citizenship of the European Union – (Un)fullfilled Expectations

Information fair „Study, work, travel within the EU“ took place on 18 April 2013 in the Charles University campus in Prague district Jinonice. The event was followed by public debate entitled “Citizenship of the European Union – (Un)fulfilled Expectations”. Among the speakers, Ivo Šlosarčík, senior research fellow at the Charles University Prague, Lenka Pítrová from Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, Karel B. Müller, senior research fellow at the University of Economics Prague, economist Jan Bureš and journalist Adam Černý actively participated in the debate.

Lenka Pítrová emphasized that events within the European year of citizens 2013 are held directly under the auspices of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. Within this framework, a series of seminars entitled „Study, work, travel within the EU“ take place in all Czech regions. After taking into account a survey provided for the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, Lenka Pítrová stated that it is the possibility to travel which is considered to be the most important and relevant part of the benefits Czech people gain from being part of the EU. “Czech citizens are not interested in abstract notions like European demos, they care more about economic aspects of the integration,” claimed Lenka Pítrová.
