Personal Information

Zdeněk Žák was born 2nd July 1968. He is married and has three children.

Education

Grammar School, Český Těšín, School Leaving Certificate, 1986. Attended the Electrical Engineering and Information Science Faculty at the Brno Technical University, graduated in 1996 with the degree of Bachelor.

Professional and Public Activities

From 1990 to 1995 Zdeněk Žák was Personnel Director of DIPLO. From then until 1997 government advisor at the Czech Ministry of Transport. From 1997 onwards, various positions in Czech Railways, first as secretary to the Administrative Council until 1998, then until 1999 Director of External Relations and in 2000 as advisor to the Managing Director. 2000 to 2001 advisor to the Czech Prime Minister. From 2000 to 2003, General Inspector in Czech Railways and up to 2006 in the Railways Inspectorate. In 2007 deputy in preparation of the agenda for the Czech Presidency of the EU, in the area of transport. In 2007 and 2008 expert advisor for Czech strategic projects in logistics and combined transport at the Czech Ministry of Transport. From 2006 to 2009 external cooperation with the Railways Inspectorate as senior counsel. In 2009, Deputy Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Czech Railways Supervisory Board. From 2009 to 2011 again senior counsel at the Railways Inspectorate. From 2009 to 2013 also worked as specialist consultant for major projects in transport safety, transport and infrastructure systems stability and accident investigation. From 2012 to 2013 held the position of Head of the National Society for Electromobility and Support for Modern Technologies.

Languages

Zdeněk Žák has an active knowledge of English, and a passive knowledge of German, Russian and Polish.

Zdeněk Žák was appointed Minister of Transport on 10th July 2013.
