Prime Minister Sobotka meets Tillich, the Minister-President of Saxony

On Thursday 17 July 2014 Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the Minister-President of the Free State of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich. In particular they discussed the development of cross-border transport infrastructure, the intensifying of police cooperation and the use of European funds.

The main topics of the meeting between Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister-President Tillich were particularly the development of cross-border cooperation, especially with regard to the project for the planned high-speed rail link between Prague and Dresden and in relation to the completion of the D8 motorway. Last month the transport ministers of the Czech Republic and Saxony signed a declaration confirming their joint intention to implement this project, which is important for the economic development of our region and for linking the Czech Republic to the passenger and freight rail network in Western Europe.

Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister-President Tillich confirmed their intention to strengthen contacts in terms of education and drawing funds from EU cross-border cooperation programs supported by contacts with non-governmental organisations and individual communities on both sides of the border.

Another important topic of the meeting was the strengthening of police cooperation. At the meeting on 17 July 2014, which was also attended by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the Minister-President of the Free State of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich, the Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic Milan Chovanec and the Minister of the Interior of the Free State of Saxony Markus Ulbig signed a joint declaration concerning the proposed cooperation in the field of public order and safety between the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic and the Saxony state Ministry of the Interior.

This was the second time Prime Minister Sobotka had met Minister-President Tillich, the first being on the fringe of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic to Berlin in March 2014.
