Prime Minister Sobotka opened the Bavarian representative offices for the Czech Republic together with Minister-President of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer

On Thursday, 4 December 2014, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, together with Minister-President of Bavaria Horst Seehofer, opened the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria in Prague. At their joint meeting, the two premiers focused on mutual relations and means of their further expansion, which should be supported by the new Representation in the CR.

Other topics included the successful drawdown of funds over recent years from the operational programme and opportunities for cooperation in science, research and innovation.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka stated that he regarded the opening of the representative offices to be a significant event, and one which will again raise Czech-Bavarian relations to a new level. Bavaria is an important economic partner for the Czech Republic, particularly in the area of modern technologies and products with high added value.

The partnership between the Czech Republic and Bavaria has enormous potential in economic, political, cultural and general civilisation areas. The aim is therefore to continue this cooperation, particularly in economic fields, and to expand the exploitation of modern technologies.

A major challenge for the future will also be to improve transport links. The Czech government will push for easier rail links between Munich, Pilsen and Prague.

The ceremonial opening of the Representation in the Chotek Palace in Prague was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Andrej Babiš, Minister of Culture, Daniel Herman, and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Michaela Marksová. The introductory speech was given by Bavarian State Minister for European Affairs, Beate Merk.
