Visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkey Cemil Çiçek to the Prime Minister Sobotka

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka met Cemil Çiçek, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, at the Straka Academy on Monday 26th January 2015. At the meeting, they observed the Memorial Day for the Victims of the Holocaust and discussed the issues of the common fight against antisemitism, racism and intolerance. These issues were also the focus of the international conference Let My People Live!, held in Prague and attended by both of the statesmen.

Bohuslav Sobotka and Cemil Çiçek dealt also with other topics, for example the question of economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and Turkey.

”Both countries are interested in further improving and developing their economic relations. Czech companies do not only export in Turkey, but also invest there significantly – particularly in the power industry, transport engineering, or the pharmaceutical industry. Turkish entrepreneurs invest in the Czech Republic as well, especially in the field of tourism,“ stated the Prime Minister Sobotka.

He added that in his opinion, the Czech-Turkish relations were very friendly and that there were no unresolved issues; on the contrary, Turkey was a prospective trading partner for the Czech Republic.
