Prime Minister opens business forum, visits demilitarised zone and holds talks with National Assembly speaker

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the government delegation have entered the second day of their official trip to the Republic of Korea. Today, the prime minister focused on investment and business support. In the morning, he opened a business forum and attended an investment seminar. The prime minister also visited the Korean Demilitarised Zone and met Ui-hwa Chung, the speaker of the National Assembly.

Business forum on the development of business relations between the Czech Republic and South Korea

Prime Minister Sobotka, upon opening the Czech-Korean business forum, pointed out that Korea stood alongside the US and China as one of the Czech Republic’s three most significant trading partners outside Europe, and that this mutual trade cooperation was continuing to intensify.
Besides Prime Minster Sobotka, another speaker at the business forum was Vladimír Dlouhý, the president of the Czech Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Czech business community and R&D sector, an accompanying business mission organised by the Czech Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of Korean companies. Prime Minister Sobotka noted that there were opportunities for greater cooperation between the two countries in areas including the energy sector, transport and the defence industry. He also drew attention to major investments by Korean companies at the start of the investment seminar. Karel Kučera, the director-general of CzechInvest – the business and investment support agency – also contributed to this seminar.

The Prime Minister inspected the Korean Demilitarised Zone and held talks with the National Assembly speaker

On the second day of his visit to South Korea, the prime minister also visited the Korean Demilitarised Zone and the village of Panmunjom, where the Korean War armistice was signed.
Prime Minister Sobotka’s talks with Ui-hwa Chung, the speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, centred on an assessment of Czech-Korean relations and cooperation in science, education and culture. He then visited an exhibition of historical Bohemian glass at the National Museum, before proceeding to Gyeongbokgung Palace. At the Czech Centre, he opened an exhibition of figure drawing, which included a presentation of the best work produced by art-college students in 2014.

Transport minister Dan Ťok focused on transport safety

One of the members of the government delegation headed by Prime Minister Sobotka in the Republic of Korea is the transport minister Dan Ťok, who met his Korean counterpart Suh Seoung-hwan today. Their talks touched on cooperation in the construction of modern transport systems integrating different modes of transport and reducing passenger handling times. The Minister invited the Korean side to take part in the tendering procedure being considered for the completion of a railway link to Prague Airport.
