In the Zaatari refugee camp, Prime Minister Sobotka personally examined the use of financial assistance from the Czech Republic

On Sunday 25 October, during his trip to Jordan, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited the Zaatari refugee camp where he met with the Jordanian police officials who manage the camp and representatives of international agencies. He also visited the local clinic, where he met a number of Syrians who were operated on by Czech doctors under the MEDEVAC programme. He also paid a visit to the site of the electricity grid, which was built for the camp with financial assistance from the Czech Republic.

“The Czech Republic contributed a significant financial sum to ensure the operation of the camp, and this year alone CZK 45 million has been provided for its electrification. I am delighted to have this opportunity to visit the Zaatari refugee camp and to see in person that this Czech aid has been put to good use through funding the electrification of the camp, which has substantially reduced energy costs and ensured reliability of supply. The Czech Republic will continue to provide support and I am counting on the Government to release additional funding next year to assist Jordan in dealing with the refugee crisis,” said Prime Minister Sobotka

The refugee camp in Zaatari, Jordan, is one of the largest in the world. It currently houses over 80 thousand refugees. There are more than 650 thousand Syrian refugees in Jordan.
