The Government agrees with the accession of Montenegro to NATO

On the 18th of April 2016, the Government of the Czech Republic discussed the wording of the Accession Protocol and subsequently recommended to the President of the Czech Republic to empower Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek and two alternates, Deputy Foreign Minister for management of the security and multilateral section Jakub Kulhánek and the Ambassador of Czech Republic to NATO Jiří Šedivý, to sign the Protocol, subject to its subsequent parliamentary approval and ratification by the President of the Czech Republic.

NATO foreign ministers invited Montenegro to begin talks on its accession to NATO at their meeting in December 2015. Talks took place between the 15th and 16th of February 2016 at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The government of the Czech Republic discussed the wording of the Accession Protocol and subsequently recommended to the President of the Czech Republic to empower Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek and two alternates, Deputy Foreign Minister for management of the security and multilateral section Jakub Kulhánek and the Ambassador of Czech Republic to NATO Jiří Šedivý, to sign the Protocol, subject to its subsequent parliamentary approval and ratification by the President of the Czech Republic.

The protocol should be signed at the meeting of Foreign Ministers on the 19th to 20th of May 2016 in Brussels. After the signing ceremony, national approval processes carried out simultaneously in 28 Member States and Montenegro itself will begin.
