25 August 2016: Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka will meet the German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Invited by the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, will visit the Czech Republic on Thursday, 25 August 2016.

The main topics of their meeting will be the future of the European Union, the continuation of Czech-German strategic dialogue and the cooperation in science, research and modern technologies. Furthermore, the meeting of Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka will also focus on the modernization of transport infrastructure connecting both countries or on cooperation in security issues.

As part of the programme of Chancellor Merkel’s official visit to the Czech Republic, the Chancellor and the Prime Minister will visit the Czech Technical University in Prague where they will meet the representatives of Czech and German research institutions and companies co-fostering the Czech-German cooperation in applied research and the digitalisation of industry.

The programme also participate Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic's Government for the Science, Research and Innovation Pavel Bělobrádek, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek, Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Mládek and Minister of Culture Daniel Herman.

Please be advised that due to the limited capacity of the premises of the Czech Technical University, only a limited number of photographers and camerapersons may be present at the beginning of the meeting of Chancellor Merkel and Prime Minister Sobotka with the representatives of Czech and German research institutions, i.e. only those who request accreditation as soon as possible, see below.

Accreditation needs to be requested by Wednesday, 24 August 2016, 12.00 p.m., exclusively in written form by using the email address: akreditace@vlada.gov.cz. Please attach an accreditation form to your email which is to be found enclosed to this email.

The press representatives will be informed about whether they were granted accreditation and for which time in the course of next week.

The time of arrival to Straka Academy is 1.15 p.m. at the latest.

The time of arrival to the Czech Technical University in Prague is 2.45 p.m. at the latest.
