Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister-President Seehofer Opened the Bavarian Exhibition on Charles IV.

On Wednesday, 19 October 2016, the second part of the Czech-Bavarian Land Exhibition – Emperor Charles IV. 1316 – 2016 - was opened in Nuremberg. The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, and the Minister-President of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer. The exhibition is held to mark the 700th birth anniversary of Charles IV.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition, which will be held in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg till 5 March 2017, was attended also by the Minister of Culture, Daniel Herman, and by the Director General of the National Gallery in Prague, Jiří Fajt.

The Prime Minister Sobotka appreciated that the exhibition offers a various though authentic image of a statesman who is a symbol of development, cooperation and cultural as well as value ethos in the history of both countries. Sobotka highlighted also the cooperation of the Czech Republic and Bavaria when arranging the exhibition.

The Prime Minister Sobotka stated: “Today it is the 700^th birth anniversary of Charles IV. It was a man whose importance exceeded significantly not only the Czech but also Bavarian borders. It is my honor to attend the second part opening ceremony of the Czech-Bavarian Land Exhibition today, which finally offers an image corresponding to the current level of historical knowledge. I am also pleased to agree with the statement that the neighboring relationships between the Czech Republic and Bavaria are close and friendly. I am very glad that our Government is able to contribute to these relationships in a certain manner”.

The Bavarian exhibition follows the Czech part that was opened by the Prime Minister Sobotka and the Minister-President Seehofer in Prague on 14 May 2016. Altogether 270 artworks from the period of Charles IV., including statutes, pictures, textile relics, manuscripts or parchment documents, were exhibited in Waldstein Riding School in Prague on 25 September 2016.

The exhibition is supposed to depict the image of Charles IV. without any ideological prejudice and also present the scientific knowledge gained during the last decade. 92.857 visitors visited the exhibition in Waldstein Riding School, which means it is the most successful exhibition project of the National Gallery in Prague this year.
