Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka thanked the outgoing Japanese ambassador, T. Yamakawa, for his contribution to Czech-Japanese relations

On Thursday 2 March 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, Tetsuo Yamakawa, to the Straka Academy on the occasion of his departure from his post as ambassador to the Czech Republic, to thank him for his contribution to improving Czech-Japanese relations

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sobotka praised his active approach to developing relations between the two countries in the areas of trade, science, the arts and sports. During his mission, Tetsuo Yamakawa has also made great efforts to bring together the geographically distant, but historically interrelated, Czech and Japanese cultures. He also contributed to preparations for the Year of Japanese Culture in the CR, which will take place this year on the occasion of the 60^th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Together with the Japanese ambassador, the Prime Minister also reviewed Czech-Japanese relations and the potential for further cooperation, particularly in economic areas, but also in energy, security, research and development, as well as in culture and education.

Tetsuo Yamakawa has acted as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in the Czech Republic since September 2013 and his mandate will expire on 7 March 2017.
