Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the President of the European Council Donald Tusk talk about the future of the EU

In the margin of the Globsec security forum in Bratislava, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk on Sunday 28 May 2017. They talked about the future of the European Union and the preparations for the European Council in June.

The Brexit and the need to keep the member states united were also among the topics of the meeting. In the opinion of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, maintaining unity and coherence within EU-27 is a priority as regards the future path of the Union.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka also emphasized the need to avoid that the Union would split into a core and a periphery. As regards defence, he pointed out the need to protect the external borders of the Schengen area. Deepening of defence cooperation will also be among the topics of the DESOCP security conference that will take place on 9 June in Prague.

The discussions also touched upon the topics of removing barriers in the internal market and the preparations for the June European Council.
