Prime Minister Sobotka attends a reception held at the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Saxony Liaison Office in Prague

On Tuesday 23 May 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka attended a reception held at the Lichtenstein Palace in Prague at the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Prague Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony. The Saxony government led by Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich used the opportunity to come to Prague for their first out-of-home meeting in the Czech Republic.

At the reception, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka commended the long-term good relations between the Czech Republic and Saxony, which also benefit from the activities of the Liaison Office.

For the Czech Republic, Saxony is, among other, an important business partner, in particular in mechanical engineering, energy and mining industries. Saxony ranks fifth among the German federal states as regards their trade turnover with the Czech Republic.

Today, the Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Saxony also talked about the project of high-speed railway connection between Dresden and Prague, which is a priority in transport for both governments.

In addition, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka emphasized the successful mutual cooperation of police forces, which focuses on combatting drug and property related crimes and investigating car thefts in the border regions.

The previous meeting between Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich took place in February 2017 when the Saxony Prime Minister visited Prague.
