Premier Babiš held talks with Thuringian Prime Minister Ramelow

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš received on Monday, 4 June 2018, prime minister of the Free State of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelow, in the Straka Academy. The main topics of the meeting were the Czech-German strategic dialogue, development of economic cooperation and European Union issues.

At the start of the meeting, Premier Babiš assured Prime Minister Ramelow about the interest of the Czech Republic in maintaining the excellent relations with Germany and with the individual Federal States. They spoke particularly about the Czech-German strategic dialogue that contributes to better coordination of preparations of the railway connection between the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, and about developing cooperation in science and research.

An important theme of the meeting was the possible intensification of economic cooperation where Thuringia ranks 10th among the Federal States in the foreign trade turnover with the Czech Republic. Overall, the Federal Republic of Germany is the most important trade partner for the Czech Republic, with a 29.5% share in the total turnover of the Czech foreign trade, while nearly 33% of Czech export goes to Germany.

Premier Babiš discussed with Prime Minister Ramelow also Union issues, mainly the future of the EU and the budget under preparation.
