On 100th anniversary of founding of Czechoslovakia, Prime Minister Babiš lunches with Prime Ministers of Slovakia, Poland and Luxembourg

On Saturday, 27 October Prime Minister Andrej Babiš welcomed to the Kramář villa important foreign guests who have come to Prague to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. At a joint working lunch, they discussed in particular current European issues.

The formal lunch was attended by Prime Minister of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister Marija Pejcinovic Burič, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister Miro Cerar and Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu.

"I am very pleased that everyone accepted my invitation to celebrate this important anniversary for our country. This joint lunch at the residence of the first Prime Minister of  Czechoslovakia was also an excellent opportunity to  discuss a number of topics informally", said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.

In addition to the main topic, the celebration of 100 years of Czechoslovak statehood, the politicians also discussed the issues of Brexit and the European Union’s multi-annual financial framework.

"We have coordinated our positions primarily on the issue of Britain's withdrawal from the EU. Among other things I advised my colleagues about my visit on Wednesday to London and my talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May. We also briefly spoke about the next European budget and our priorities. The Czech Republic wishes to support an overall reduction in the European Union budget compared to the European Commission's proposal, as long as this is not at the expense of cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy, said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.

According to the Prime Minister the Czech government advocates a pro-European policy and is striving for the Czech Republic to play an active role in the European Union.

After their joint lunch, Prime Minister Babiš invited his guests to the ongoing programme celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. Here they attended the opening ceremony of the newly renovated National Museum building and attended the Czech-Slovak anniversary exhibition.
