Prime Minister Andrej Babiš: I am pleased that me and Mr Haseloff share a pragmatic approach to energy

On Tuesday, 26 March 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš met with Reiner Haseloff, Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt. Together they discussed bilateral relations, the results of the talks within the so-called “Coal Commission” and economic cooperation.

The main topic of the discussion was the impact of the compromises reached within the German Coal Commission on the economic interconnection of the two countries in the field of energy and brown coal. The Federal Republic of Germany should cease coal mining and coal-fired plant operations by 2038.

“I talked with Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt Reiner Haseloff on economic cooperation, especially on energy and the results of the German Coal Commission. I am pleased that me and Mr Haseloff share a pragmatic approach to energy”, said the Prime Minister after the meeting.

Germany is an important partner for the Czech Republic and accounts for 28.9% of the Czech Republic’s foreign trade. Saxony-Anhalt is then the 8th largest trading partner among the Länder.

The Prime Minister already met with Mr Haseloff on 8 October 2018 in Prague.
