Prime Minister Andrej Babiš commemorated the anniversary of the end of World War II

On the occasion of the National Victory Day on 8 May 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš attended a commemoration act at the National Memorial at Vítkov in Prague and the ceremonial appointment of new generals at Prague Castle. The head of the Office of the Government Tünde Bartha then honoured the memory of the fallen at the monument to the second Czechoslovak resistance in Prague’s Klárov.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman, President of the Chamber of Deputies Radek Vondráček, President of the Senate Jaroslav Kubera, Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar and other distinguished guests commemorated the 74th anniversary of the end of World War II fighting at a ceremony at the National Memorial at Prague’s Vítkov.

“We should especially celebrate the fact that in Europe, we have not had a war for 74 years. Unfortunately, tens of millions of people died during the last war. Vítkov is a memorable place for our country, where we pay tribute to all our soldiers, legionaries who fought for the freedom of our country. This is important to remember, especially for the younger generation, for the future. It is an important day”, said the Prime Minister and appreciated the war veterans present.

Victory Day celebrations continued with the ceremonial appointment of new generals by President Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle with the participation of the Prime Minister and other guests.

The head of the Office of the Government Tünde Bartha attended the commemorative ceremony at the memorial to the second Czechoslovak resistance in Prague’s Klárov. The memorial, created by Vladimír Preclík and unveiled in May 2006, commemorates the resistance fighters who died during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia between 1938 and 1945.
