Press Release

Today, on 15th January, 2007, the Prime Minister of Czech Government Mr. Mirek Topolánek met with some Members of Parliament for the Czech Social Democratic Party, to discuss the stabilization of the Czech political scene and the programme of the new Government.

Both sides have agreed on the impossibility of prolonging and deepening the current instability in the Czech Republic any further, and the need to return to the standard political mechanisms.

Both sides reached consensus on many items of the Government Programme Statement now being drafted, as well as other related issues. Concerning some other points of the Government Statement, they however decided that it is necessary to hold further negotiations with the aim of finding an acceptable compromise. These related mainly to support for young families, health care provision and the social sphere.

The discussions will continue.
