Commemorative ceremony in honour of the memory of Jan Palach

On Tuesday, 16th January, 2007, at 5:00 p.m., the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mr. Mirek Topolánek will honour the memory of Jan Palach, the student of the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague.

Jan Palach immolated himself in 1969 in protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia and the subsequent „normalization“ process, by laying flowers at Jan Palach’s commemorative plaque on the Faculty building on the square bearing his name (Náměstí Jana Palacha 2) in Prague 1.
