State Security Council Meeting 3.7.2007

On Tuesday, July 3, 2007, Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek of the Czech Republic will attend a session of the State Security Council (SSC). The meeting will be held in the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, nábřeží Edvarda Beneše 4, Prague 1, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The SSC meeting will be focused on the following items: Providing for the Czech Republic’s energy security, the status and the risk of threats being carried out, Report on further procedures in ensuring energy security. Another major document to be discussed is the Defence Plan of the Czech Republic which presents - in keeping with the existing legal norms in the field of security of the Czech Republic, its defence and crisis management - a contingency planning document in case of eventual use of the Czech Republic’s armed forces against an external attack or in case of discharging its alliance commitments.
The members of the State Security Council will be also briefed on the current status of the incidence of avian flu ijn the territory of the Czech Republic, including measures taken against it. The Council will also hear information on the evaluation of the crisis situation caused by the destructive hurricane Kyrill in January 2007. It will discuss Proposal for a minimum fund of knowledge for the training of security policy experts. When approved by the State Security Council, this should become a basis for the certification of study programmes in the field of security to be used at all Czech universities.
