Prime Minister To Attend NATO Day in Ostrava

Tomorrow, on Saturday, September 15, 2007, Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek of the Czech Republic will attend the 7th NATO Day in Ostrava. The event is also held as a commemoration of the anniversary of the Battle of Britain in World War II.

Due to its concept and scope, this is a unique event, unparalleled not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe. Its purpose is to present to the general public the widest possible scale of technology available to the Czech Republic and its allies in the defence and security sector.

The Premier will attend the inauguration of the event at Ostrava-Mošnov airfield, then meet WW II veteran, retired Brigadier General Zdenìk Škarvada whom he will decorate with a Prime Minister´s medal. This ceremony will take place near the state-of-the-art British RAF Eurofighter Typhoon F2 aircraft, which will have their Central and Eastern European premiere at the NATO Day in Ostrava.

1.45 p.m. - photo opportunity - debate with General Škarvada, presentation of a commemorative medal
