Discussion in Radio Free Europe

Today, on Thursday, October 4, 2007, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek will participate in a debate on the subject “Russia - One Year After the Assassination of Anna Politkovska“ where he will also meet President of Radio Free Europe Jeff Gedmin and the U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic

Richard Graber. Russian journalist Anna Politkovska who wrote about human rights was known as a defender of the freedom of the expression and of the press. In her articles she criticized the approach taken by the Russian forces towards the separatist region of Chechnya. She was murdered last October under still unclarified circumstances.
The Premier will join the other participants in a debate on the role of the media in the Czech Republic and abroad in connection with the fate of the Russian journalist Politkovska.
The debate will take place in the seat of Radio Free Europe, Vinohradská 1, Prague 1. Czech Prime Minister Topolánek will be present at the discussion starting at 10.40 a.m.
