February 14, 2008: Premier Mirek Topolánek Had Talks with Charles Wessner on Science, Research and Innovation Processes

Today on Thursday, February 14, 2008, Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek received Mr. Charles Wessner, member of the United States National Academy of Sciences, for talks on science, research and innovation processes. As Director of the Institute for Technologies, Innovations and Enterprise, Charles Wessner has been commissioned to lead a program focused on technology, innovation and enterprise. In his expert activities he specializes in matters relating to innovation policies and cooperation between the private and public sectors, dealing with start-up funding of innovation companies, and the specific needs and benefits of the high-tech industry.

In Washington Mr. Wessner is regarded as an expert on practical innovation policy. He regularly appears in the US Congress, evaluating innovation programs of US technology agencies. Among other posts, he has served as an advisor of the Committee for Science and Technology at the OECD, the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology and the national technology agencies of Finland (Tekes) and Sweden (Vinnova). He is a member of the advisory body for science and technology of the Prime Minister of Taiwan.

At present, he lectures at the George Washington University, also working as a researcher at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at the University of Indiana and in the Max Planck Institute in Jena. Charles Wessner regularly lectures at the universities not only in the US but all over the world.
