February 28, 2008: Program of the Czech Government Delegation’s Working Visit to Canada

On Thursday, February 28, 2008, the Czech Government delegation, led by Premier Mirek Topolánek, leaves the United States for Canada. On his arrival from Washington to Ottawa, the Czech Prime Minister will be received by his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper. Their talks will centre on Czech-Canadian cooperation in the mission in Afghanistan, the Czech Republic´s approaching presidency of the European Union, international security and development of bilateral economic contacts. In Parliament Hill, the Czech Premier will then meet Mr. Noël Kinsella, the Senate’s Chairman, and Mr. Peter Milliken, Chairman of the Lower House of the Canadian Parliament. A meeting with Canada’s Governor-General Michaëlle Jean also figures high on the programme of the visit.

On Friday, February 29, 2008, when the Czech delegation ends its visit to Canada, Mirek Topolánek will visit an exhibition called Lost Neighbors and held in Toronto. Situated in the Miles Nadal Jewish Center, this display commemorates the fates of people who disappeared during the Holocaust in WW II. In the evening, the Czech and Canadian Premiers will meet officials of the large Czech expatriate community in the local church of St. Wencleslas.
