June 25, 2008: Working Visit to Germany

On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek together with Slovak Premier Robert Fico will be holding talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Federal Republic of Germany and Norbert Lammert, Chairman of the German Bundestag. The key reason for this tripartite Czech-Slovak-German meeting is the holding of commemorative events staged by the German Federal Government to mark the 40th anniversary of the Prague Spring in 1968.

The Czech and Slovak Premiers will join Chairman of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert in the Paul Löbe House to inaugurate an exhibition of photographs entitled “The Faces of the Prague Spring“. After an official reception by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Premiers of the Czech and Slovak Republics will join the German Chancellor and jointly attend a concert given in the Concert House. Its programme will feature performances by Czech opera singers Gabriela Beòaèková and Eva Urbanová.

As part of the trilateral talks to be held during the visit, the three leaders will discus key issues concerning mutual relations and foreign policy questions, such as the introduction of free movement of labour in the remaining EU countries or the preparation for the Czech presidency of the Council of the European Union and its priorities. Other matters to be discussed will be the so-called energy-climate package and some other topical issues.
