August 30 - September 1, 2008:Premier To Pay Official Visit to Slovenia, Belgium and Attend EU Summit

On August 30 and 31, 2008, Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek will be visiting the Republic of Slovenia, and on Monday, September 1 he will attend the 3rd summit meeting of the officials of European countries - the Bled Strategic Forum. 

As part of his bilateral programme, the Czech Premier will meet his Slovenian counterpart Janez Janša, Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, and will be received by President Danilo Türk. The topics of his discussions will include primarily experience with Slovenia´s presidency of the Council of the European Union, the priorities of the Czech presidency, and the situation in Georgia. 

On Sunday, August 31, 2008, Premier Mirek Topolánek will lay a wreath in the Dutovlje cemetery to commemorate the Czech soldiers killed in action on Sochi front during World War I, and will visit the strategic industrial port of Luka Koper. 

On Monday, September 1, 2008, the Czech Premier will meet Prime Minister Y. Letterme of the Kingdom of Belgium for talks on the current issues of the European Union, on Czech-Belgian relations, and the priorities of the Czech EU presidency. Accompanied by Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, the Czech Premier will be also attending the extraordinary session of the European Council in Brussels on the Russian-Georgian conflict. The summit has been convened by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to discus the EU´s future relations with Russia and also the Union´s aid to Georgia.
