Oct 8, 2008: Premier Solving the Issue of Reductions in Direct Payments with Framers

On Tuesday evening Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek met officials of the Association of Private Farming of the Czech Republic for talks aimed at finding a solution to the question of direct make-up payments to farmers. The Premier is planning another meeting with other officials of the Czech agricultural associations for this coming Friday.
“I am well aware of the complex situation in the agricultural sector relating to the reductions in direct payments but together with the Association of Private Farming we do not perceive the planned strike as an adequate solution to the current situation,“ Premier Mirek Topolánek commented on the meeting.
Tuesday’s talks have resulted in compromise proposals designed to tackle the question of direct make-up payments. That is why the Premier has convened another meeting with the officials of the Association of Private Farming of the Czech Republic, the Agricultural Chamber and the Society of Young Agriculturists of the Czech Republic for Friday morning. This time the meeting will be attended by Agriculture Minister Petr Gandalovič and Deputy Finance Minister Eduard Janota.
