Topolánek and Schwarzenberg Took Part in Sharm el-Sheikh Summit

President of the European Council Mirek Topolánek and Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg participated in the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit in Egypt.

The summit was also attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, President of Turkey Abdullah Gül, King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other leading politicians.

Czech Prime Minister Topolánek appreciated the active involvement of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak as well as the effort of his predecessor at the post of President of the European Council, Nicolas Sarkozy, and the participation of other European countries in the Middle-East peace talks.

The Czech Presidency considers a ceasefire to be a sine-qua-non for the resolving of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which is now a task of utmost urgency.

President of the European Council Mirek Topolánek together with Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner continue their Middle-East mission in Israel.
