Prime Minister: I will not speculate on today’s verdict by the Constitutional Court

Prime Minister Jan Fischer met President Václav Klaus today.

They discussed the current internal political situation, the preparations for next year’s budget and the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

“I exchanged views with the President on the current internal political situation; there has been no change in the position we expressed in the statement of the four constitutional officers on the Constitutional Court,” said the Prime Minister and added that he was expecting today’s decision.

The Prime Minister also informed the President of the budget preparations.

“The President has shown great understanding for the Government’s attempts at rationality. This is the only way to be macroeconomically realistic in this country at least for the next year,” said Jan Fischer.

The third topic of conversation was the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The Prime Minister confirmed that this issue could not be skirted as he will be attending the European Council in Brussels next week, where further talks on ratification will be on the agenda.

“The president reaffirmed his opinion and he is ready to attach his signature after learning the outcome of the Constitutional Court’s hearing. There has been change in his opinion in this respect,” confirmed Fischer.
