Czech Prime Minister´s Working Breakfast with the Polish President

Prague, January 22 – As part of his state visit to the Czech Republic the Polish President, Lech Kaczyński, today met with Prime Minister, Jan Fischer, for a working breakfast. Both officials pointed out the relations between Poland and the Czech Republic were not burdened with any problems, either on the bilateral or multilateral levels.

During the breakfast they particularly discussed the cooperation within the three multilateral forums – EU, NATO and the Visegrad Four. In connection with the EU it is necessary to devote attention to the proper implementation of the Lisbon Treaty following its ratification. Thanks to the change in the decision-making procedures cooperation as well as seeking of compromises will be more important than ever before. As for NATO new possibilities for cooperation and joint projects are to be sought following the reconfiguration of the anti-missile defence system on the part of the US. Both officials believe the V4 is a key sub-regional group with the importance for the future, particularly in solving economic cooperation and energy issues.

Jan Fischer and Lech Kaczyński also focused on the issues of energy safety, which is in the national interest of both countries, representing both a regional and a European issue.

At the end of the meeting President Kaczyński awarded the Czech Minister of Culture, Václav Riedlbauch, with the Commander´s Cross with Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland for the minister´s considerable contribution to the development of the Czech-Polish cultural relations.
