Government approves reparations for members of the anti-communist resistance

The prime minister also met with his ministers to deal with a motion by the Council of the Government on compensation for orphans.

"I consider it very important that the government clearly support the Senate's proposal for a law on members of the anti-communist resistance and participants in the struggle against communism. Support for this law is mentioned directly in the government's programme announcement and in the coalition agreement. It is the government's position, which is no surprise and is confirmed by today's voting here in the government," Prime Minister Petr Nečas said.

The goal of the proposal is to recompense and appreciate members of the anti-communist resistance and active participants in the struggle against the communist regime. Above all, this is about moral acknowledgment for all those who stood up against the communist regime.

The government also discussed a motion from the Council of the Goverment on compensation for orphans; they are currently disadvantaged because their deceased parents did not fulfil legal conditions for entitlement to their own old age or disability pensions. These orphans are then not entitled to orphan's pensions.

In addition, the economic situation for orphaned children must be assessed comprehensively, even taking into consideration that not every orphan was taken care of economically by their deceased family from their resources (in other words, not every family fulfiled their sustenance responsibilities to their children).

"The minister of labour and social affairs will prepare an analysis of the consequences of denying the orphan's pension on the social situation for individual types of families and will then present the government with a proposal for resolving the social situation for these families, and all by the deadine of 30 June 2011," Nečas said at a press conference.

The government also approved the recall of 8 members of the board of directors of Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna Česká republika [the General Health Insurance Company of the Czech Republic] whose terms are ending. The government also approved the recall of 11 members of the board of directors of employees' insurance companies; in 10 cases their terms are ending and in one case one member ended his employment at the Ministry of Health. The govenrment in addition named 9 members to the Board of Directors of Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna Česká republika and a total of 11 members of the Board of Directors of employees' insurance companies.
