Open Days in the Villa of Hana and Edvard Beneš

On Saturday, May 26, visitors will have the first opportunity to visit the summer residence of Hana and Edvard Beneš in Sezimovo Ústí in this year.

The villa, which has been under the administration of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic since 1975 and which is the only residence of the Prime Minister situated outside Prague, has recently undergone a large reconstruction. In cooperation with the Hussite Museum in Tábor, it was reconstructed in order to gain the original form of the years when Hana and Edvard Beneš lived there. Since May 28, 2009, when it was first opened to the public, the villa has been visited by more than 11 000 visitors.

Visitors can see the exterior of the villa, the façade of which was restored in keeping with the original colours, including the typical green shutters. Visitors can look forward to the President’s favourite recess situated in the ground floor hall, as well as the dining room and the study, which are, together with the bedroom, situated on the first floor. The interior is furnished with antiques and period furniture, which was obtained by Hana and Edvard Beneš

Part of the guided tour is also a walk through the adjacent park, which belongs to the few surviving gardens from 1930s in our country. The tour ends at the tomb of Hana and Edvard Beneš.

Both personal and political life of Edvard Beneš is well arranged and documented in the exposition of the Hussite Museum in Tábor, which is situated in the lower part of the garden in the Memorial of Edvard Beneš, the President of the Republic.

Guided tours are organized in groups from 10 AM to 4 PM. The tour takes 40 minutes.
