Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Minister of Culture, Daniel Herman, met the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang, at Kramarov Villa. The main topics discussed during the meeting were the development of bilateral trade between the two countries, closer cooperation in the areas of education, science and research and new business opportunities for Czech companies, particularly in the machine engineering, energy and food sectors, as well as in agricultural technology.

In 2014, trade between the two countries rose to its highest ever level. Vietnam is one of the 12 priority countries targeted in the Czech Republic’s Export Strategy. The Czech Government aims to build on these favourable figures in 2015 and make use of the great potential available to accelerate bilateral trading relations.

They also discussed police and judicial cooperation and progress made in discussions on an agreement to cooperate in the fight against crime and the extradition of sentenced persons.
Both the Czech Republic and Vietnam recall the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.

During his three-day official visit to the Czech Republic, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang met Czech President Miloš Zeman and attended a Czech-Vietnamese business forum in Žofín palace in Prague. This is the first ever visit by a Vietnamese president to the independent Czech Republic. During his visit to the Czech Republic, the President was accompanied by his wife, Mai Thi Hanh.
