On February 26th 2014 Mr. Tomáš Prouza, the State Secretary for European Affairs, and Mrs. Connie Hedegaard, the Member of the European Commission for Climate Action met for a business breakfast. A representative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Pavel Šolc was also present at this meeting, which took place at the premises of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. Both delegations gathered to discuss a proposal for 2030 framework for climate and energy presented by the European Commission in January 2014.

At the beginning of the meeting, Commissioner Hedegaard presented the proposal of the new framework and defended its key points, especially with respect to the need for investment framework until 2030 and to the need for a clear political sign towards our partners at the global level.

The Czech delegation explained the position of the Czech Republic based on the need to retain competitiveness of industry, cost-efficiency and flexibility allowing Member States to design their energy mix. State Secretary Prouza pointed out the aspect of acceptability of new targets for new Member States with regards to their current political discussion and economic potential. Deputy Minister for Energy Šolc consequently informed Commissioner Hedegaard about technical issues related to the fast development of supported renewable energy sources and negative consequences of this policy for completion of the internal energy market and security of supplies.

The information directly received from the Commission will help to precise the Czech position for the European Council meeting on 20th and 21st of March where the fist discussion on a political level about the 2030 framework will take place.
