Jan Fischer Meets Admiral James G. Stavridis

The Prime Minister today met with NATO´s Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

At the meeting Admiral Stavridis said the goal of his visit was to support and value the Czech units operating within allied missions. “Over the eleven years of its NATO membership the Czech Republic has shown it is not a passive consumer of joint security but an active contributor to its building, and you deserve big credit for that, “ Admiral Stavridis said.

According to the Admiral the work of Czech units in Kosovo and Afghanistan is among the best. The Admiral and Prime Minister Fischer discussed the situation in the region in general, the role of Pakistan in the stabilization process, NATO´s new Strategic Concept—currently under preparation—as well as the strategy of the process in Afghanistan with a focus on strengthening civilian presence. At the end of the meeting Admiral Stavridis, once again, expressed his thanks to the Czech Government for its continuing involvement in allied projects.
