In Kyoto, Prime Minister Sobotka and the management of Shimadzu discussed strengthening Shimadzu’s technological cooperation with the Czech Republic

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has been on his official visit to Japan for a third day. Today in Kyoto, the Prime Minister met the management of Shimadzu, a company manufacturing state-of-the-art technological, medical and laboratory equipment, lasers and aviation equipment.

The Prime Minister was present at the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the International Clinical Research Centre of St. Anne’s University Hospital Brno and this company, which operates worldwide. The hospital wants to cooperate with Shimadzu, a company with a global network, on developing a mass spectrometer, which can also be used in brain tumour research. Prime Minister Sobotka and the company management discussed a possible enhancement of the company’s cooperation with Czech businesses and technology centres.

Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister of Industry and Trade Jiří Havlíček met the Czech business delegation at a working lunch in Kyoto today. With representatives of Czech businesses they primarily discussed specific areas to strengthen the trade cooperation between the Czech Republic and Japan and the ways how the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade could help intensify trade opportunities to a greater extent.

The Czech delegation used the Shinkansen high-speed train as the means of its transport from Tokyo to Kyoto today. The high-speed railway network links most major cities on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu. According to Prime Minister Sobotka, Japan’s high-speed railway network is a great inspiration for the Czech Republic in particular, where the Government is engaged in the preparations of high-speed railway lines and linking our lines to international corridors.

In the evening, Prime Minister Sobotka and the Czech delegation took part in an official dinner together with Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa.

Tomorrow, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the Czech delegation will conclude their official visit to Japan in the city of Hiroshima, where they will pay tribute to the memory of the victims of World War II.
