About the Ethic Commission

The Ethics Commission for Recognition of Participants in Anti-Communist Opposition and Resistance (hereinafter only “Ethics Commission”) comprises of nine members. The Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Senate of the Czech Parliament, Czech Government and the Council of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes elect and recall two members each. One member is appointed and recalled by the President of the Czech Republic. The Chair of the Ethics Commission is elected and recalled by the government from the members elected by the government.

The members of the Ethics Commission are elected for a five-year term. Nobody can be elected for more than two consecutive terms.


The authority of the Ethics Commission is regulated by the provision § 7 of the Act No. 262/2011 Coll., on the Participants in Anti-Communist Opposition and Resistance.

  • On 21st November 2011 the Council of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes elected PhDr. Marie Rút Křížková and Miloslav Nerad as members of the Ethics Commission
  • On 16th December 2011 the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament elected JUDr. Stanislav Devátý as a member of the Ethics Commission.
  • On 25th January 2012 the Senate of the Czech Parliament elected Mgr. Miloš Rejchrt as a member of the Ethics Commission.
  • On 10th February 2012 the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament elected PhDr. Prokop Tomek as a member of the Ethics Commission.
  • On 29th February 2012 the Senate of the Czech Parliament elected JUDr. Jan Kudrna, Ph.D..
  • On 30th March 2012 the President of the Czech Republic appointed MVDr. Jiří Liška as a member of the Ethics Commission.
  • On 2nd May 2012 the Czech Government elected prof. PhDr. Jan Sokol, CSc. a Mgr. Jiří Kaucký as members of the Ethics Commission. On the same day the Czech Government appointed Mgr. Jiří Kaucký as the Chair of the Ethics Commission.

At the first meeting of the Ethics Committee on 11th June 2012 PhDr. Prokop Tomek has been elected as the Ethics Commission’s Vice-Chair.
